Compost and worm tea sprays
Compost too can make a nutrient-rich leaf spray. To make compost tea, fill a waterproof can ? to ¼ full of compost, then add enough water to fill the can. Let steep overnight or until solution looks like weak iced tea. Strain and place liquid in a spray bottle and spray weekly on fast-growing plants, monthly on slow-growing plants. Do not use manure compost to make a tea that will be used on vegetables or fruit because there’s a slight chance the manure will carry E. coli bacteria.
Worm castings also make good nutrient- and trace mineral–rich tea. Prepare the tea as you would compost tea but only fill the can ? of the way with the castings. Castings are water soluble and will dissolve fairly quickly. Spray fast-growing plants weekly and slow-growing or houseplants monthly.
